Rea Thusana Foundation

Rea Thusana Foundation (RTF) is a non-profit organisation (NPO) serving people experiencing homelessness in Muizenberg (Cape Town, South Africa). The name is borrowed from the Sotho expression for “we help one another”, expressing the heart to focus on giving a hand-up (rather than a handout) to empower/strengthen abused and homeless women and children.

Stories of Hope

Family of 6

The family lived on the street for 2 years after they lost their job
and their home. They are now living in Somerset West Night shelter. The
children are going to school and the parents are being assisted with
psychosocial support and skill development. The goal is for them to find a
job and an affordable home after their stay in the shelter and for the
children to continue with their education.

Quintin & Ricarlo

Quintin and Ricarlo are on the job-readiness program and have started
working. Quintin is staying in his own place and rebuilding his
relationship with his children. Ricarlo is staying in one of the u-turn
houses and working on his rehabilitation and job readiness program. They
were both homeless in Muizenberg and had a father-and-son relationship.
